Duke Dumont – Ocean Drive (Original Mix)
Duke Dumont has become firmly set in our decade’s electronic music history over the last two years, establishing himself as the anchor of comfortably soothing, deeply groovy house music. With Dumont, however, past releases are less exciting than what’s to come. Yesterday, he announced he’ll be releasing an EP series entitled Blasé Boys Club with the first installment slated for release on October 2.
Dumont paired the Blasé Boys Club announcement with the release of the series’ first single. “Ocean Drive” stays on course with Dumont’s prior compositions in terms of its serene pads, funk-inspired bass, and soulful vocalizations. Conversely, the song also deviates from his signature house essence. “Ocean Drive’s” slow, calculated rhythm and predominant synthesizers recall the style of early electronic music pioneers like New Order and Nu Shooz. As further singles drop from Blasé Boys, it will be interesting to see if Dumont continues his homage to his melodic predecessors.
