GRiZ – Summer ’97 feat. Muzzy Bearr

One-man funk act GRiZ gives us a new track to add to our summertime playlist with “Summer ’97,” a leisurely listen that’s perfect for long days and hot nights. The track opens with a sample of Matthew McConaughey’s Dazed and Confused character sharing an inspirational prophecy: “Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin’ man, L-I-V-I-N.”

In just under 20 seconds, GRiZ solidifies “Summer ’97” as the season’s relaxation anthem. The Michigan-bred sax guru recruited fellow All Good Records signee Muzzy Bearr to lay down a smooth guitar solo, resulting in a mellow jazz-jam that soothes listeners back to memories of simpler times.

GRiZ, who “felt like spreading the love and dropping a summer vibes tune,” originally started the track last year and finished around wintertime. He refined the track until its recent release, which comes as a free download.

Cue the crisp production, and sit back to enjoy an immersive electro-soul experience.
