Julian Jeweil delivers some sinister techno for Richie Hawtin’s Minus label

It’s safe to say this summer has been prosperous for rising French techno star Julian Jeweil. In June, “Meteorite” was released, and it is still among the top 10 techno tracks in Beatport has been heard in sets from the likes of Sam Paganini, Nicole Moudaber, and Adam Beyer. Not to be stopped there, his newest EP called Bird has just been released through Richie Hawtin’s label Minus.

Bird is rife with the Jeweil’s repertoire of dark, mechanical, and melodic sounds. The title track starts off the EP with a sinister melody set in a minor key. Taking on a more technical feel is “And We,” which utilizes a groovier bassline and house elements like the vocal sample stating “And we dance.” Carrying on this trend is “153 Essex Street;” acid synths pounding out the melodic accents slam the ear drums as the pounding bass maintains a strict rhythm. Going back to the dark side, “Concept” and “Wax” strip down to the basics of a thumping deep bassline and simple yet technical elements like chimes on the upbeats and claps to drive the tracks. If you like your techno served evil, then Bird will be a treat to your ears.
