2015 has been a good year for LA-based trap producer NGHTMRE. Spurred along by a slew of successful Slander partnerships, NGHTMRE’s near-meteoric ascent was solidified when Skrillex opened his 2015 Ultra Miami set with his then-unidentified but extremely hyped original track “Street.” Since lifting the veil to “Street” last month, NGHTMRE has established himself as one of the rare producers who can successfully tow the line between being dark, distinctive, and danceable in his production. For his latest release, NGHTMRE takes on a remix of Keys N Krates, an outfit welll known for their abilities to walk this same line.

A nightmarish aura surrounds Keys N Krates’ infamous original “Dum Dee Dum,” so NGHTMRE’s decision to try his hand at a remix was a natural fit. Though he doesn’t reinvent the wheel with his remix, he doesn’t need to do so to succeed in his vision for the song. In switching up the tempo, layering Keys’ initially stark bass kicks with 808s, and adding in his the ominous vocal chops that are becoming a welcomed NGHTMRE motif, he creates a groove-driven track that complements the haunting original well.
