Major Lazer feat. Wild Belle – b2gether (Mija Remix)
Major Lazer’s collaboration with Wild Belle, “Be Together,” provides a balladic foil to their massively popular “Lean On.” Slow, sultry, and pointed with wistful lyrics, the track manages to be soft without being sappy.
Up-and-coming producer Mija has spent the last year building a career around irreverent bass music. On her social media accounts, she provides a mission statement of “shredding a tidal wave of whiskey on a surfboard made out of don’t care“. Given her high-octane musical catalogue and devil-may-care attitude, her decision to take on the most sentimental song from Peace Is The Mission seems a bit perplexing. Ultimately, Mija deviates from her standard fare to release a serene future-driven remix of “Be Together,” but doesn’t surrender her fundamentally energetic style. Her choice to pitch up Wild Belle’s sombre vocals and heighten the tempo helps matriculate the song into the dancefloor setting, but her melodic synthesis captures the essence of the original well.
