Grandtheft – Quit This City (feat. Lowell)

Rising Canadian producer Grandtheft has been a fan favorite on the Mad Decent label for the last two years, having carved out a name for himself with a catalogue of straightforward, forceful trap compositions. Recently, he’s been gearing up for the release of his forthcoming EP Quit This City, which seems to be somewhat of a digression from his standard style. In August, he released his first track from the EP, “Hold On,” a celestially futuristic collaboration with fellow Canadian producer Sleepy Tom.

Grandtheft’s newest release from “Quit This City” is the titular track. The song continues the divergent theme set in place by “Hold On,” but also stays true to his signature style. Featuring the wistful vocals of Lowell, Grandtheft fuses vibrantly ethereal future synthesis with a gritty trap-inspired bassline to pleasantly meld his new vision with his classic fare. “Quit This City” harkens back to What So Not’s “Jaguar,” and is an impressive reconciliation of primal and poignant emotions. The EP is slated for release on October 30, but is currently available for preorder here.
