Trace dance music’s history through Boiler Room’s Chicago vs Detroit event

People may view Europe as the “motherland” of electronic music due to its massive output of superstar DJs since the 1990s, but what they often forget is that house and techno as we know it today stems from the United States. Boiler Room, an institution known for putting together an array of eccentric and mostly underground musical events across the globe, is now targeting musical history with its Chicago vs Detroit event. Spanning six days with four day-to-night events, alternating parties in Chicago, home of house music, and Detroit, techno’s hotbed, will be hosted with a multitude of local acts keeping the scene alive on the decks. In total, 25 DJs will allow fans to take a step back in time and revel in both past and present music from the two cities that have influenced the enormous electronic music scene we see today.
