Fear Factor producer John de Mol in talks to purchase ID&T

Dutch mogul John de Mol, revered in the Netherlands for producing reality television shows such as Big Brother, Fear Factor, and The Voice of Holland, is currently in talks to purchase ID&T from its parent company, SFX. Though the conglomerate has recently sought help from investment bank Moelis & Co to decrease its piling debt, there may be some shred of hope for the struggling live events firm.

de Mol is having “extensive discussions” with Q-dance founder Wouter Tavecchio and ID&T lawyer Bas Meijer to buy out the SFX subsidiary that backs large scale events such as Sensation and Tomorrowland. Despite his reputation for being a prolific television show producer, his resume also boasts experience in the dance music world. Up until February, John de Mol was the owner of music publisher Talpa Music, whose clients included Tiesto, Afrojack, Laidback Luke, and many more.

While the media magnate appears to be a serious contender, Quote states that “There are more private equity firms who prey on the European parts of SFX.” However, most interested parties are waiting to make a bid until SFX’s supposed bankruptcy hits – when ID&T’s value on the market will be marked down even further.
