Tommy Trash’s ‘Luv U Giv’ EP surprises in the best of ways

This is Tommy Trash like you’ve never heard him before.

The Astralian’s latest release, Luv U Giv EP, released with A-Trak’s Fools Gold, is stunning. Yes, the three-track EP is electro-house. However, this is unlike the electro that likely comes to mind. Channeling his inner 1980’s fanatic, Tommy gave us a blast from the past with his latest work, and the sound works exceedingly well. Known for his wild sets and even wilder hair, Tommy Trash has been a staple around mainstages across the world for a good minute, but the Luv U Giv EP is deserving of so much more recognition; it is not simply for those that stay glued to the biggest and brightest stages. If you’re a fan of music, you’ll dig the project.

Luv U Giv starts with its title track, “Luv U Giv,” and it may even be the EP’s strongest point. The track focuses on a throw-back sound while incorporating the ever-important four-on-the-floor drum pattern to bring the production to life. The vocal on this one is undoutedly catchy, and had us running the track back numerous times.

Tommy follows “Luv U Giv” with “Body Movin,” a production that shifts the focus of the EP to the gritty electro you know Tommy Trash for. Again, Tommy picks a wonderfully smooth vocal to craft atop the relentless eventual electro attack. Though the track alone is wonderful, it represents the lul between two fantastic songs on the project, which is by no means a negative.

Finally, Anna Lunoe steps up to join Tommy on the EP’s third and final track, “Me & U.” Fitting right along with the groovy 80s style, the two Australians work wonders together – stitching together a track that is sonically representative of Tommy’s maturing taste. Though this one might not make it to the big-room sets, “Me & U” is a fantastic production, and rounds out Tommy Trash’s finest release yet.
