The Weeknd sued for sampling score of 2013 film ‘The Machine’

The Weeknd and his team – including his producers and record labels – have been sued for sampling a track from the score of 2013 film, The Machine, on “The Hills.” Supposedly Emmnuel Nickerson, who assisted in producing the track in question, directly got in touch with The Machine composer Tom Raybould, writing, “I sampled your music might make it 2 the weeknd next album. Huge fan of what u did 4 the machine movie!’”

The suit cites “the same pitch sequence, melodic phase structure and rhythmic durations” as the primary similarities between “The Hills” and The Machine’s track, “Revolution.” Listen to the two below and judge for yourself. The track and corresponding sample in question begins at 26 minutes and 46 seconds, according to Fact.
