Context is everything. On the surface, a collaboration from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs. W&W frankly no longer sounds appealing. Three to four years ago, however, during the peak of the big room era, the collaboration would have inarguably turned countless heads. While the genre may have lost steam in the hearts of many dance faithfuls, there’s no denying the impact the genre still holds on main stages and festivals abroad.

Dimitri Vegas & Like’s new single with W&W is aimed squarely at this demographic. While it follows a fairly regular big room formula, the track is notable for its extended introductory breakdown, building slowly over a two-minute span. When the drop finally arrives, it’s a bit more of a melodic fare than what we’re accustomed to from the Belgian duo, aided surely by the contributions of Dutch pair W&W.

The impact of the track is most observable in the context of the Tomorrowland Aftermovie.

 

 

Ultimately, the track is sure to go down well over festival sets abroad, but it begs the question, has the big room scene already peaked? Where can it go from here?
