Africa Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force’s ‘Planet Rock’ gets the remix treatment from Boys Noize

In celebration of this year’s Record Store Day, Boys Noize has stepped up to offer his spin on one of the most iconic hip-hop tracks of all time. Taking on Africa Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force, Boys Noize reworks the now-canonized 1986 hit “Planet Rock.” Laying down his over-filtered accents and syncopated vocal modifications, the BNR label-head offers a tinge of his signature acid and breaks method on the remix, though he opts with the more minimal approach, leaving the original selection’s key funk-influenced elements largely intact.

The “Planet Rock” remix will be released as a 12″ pressing alongside Bambaataa’s original mix, the instrumental track, and a rework from Lunice that appears to still be under wraps for now. The EP will be released April 14 via Big Beat/Atlantic/Boys Noize Records, accompanying a new documentary about the Roland TR-808 drum machine. Listen to the Boys Noize remix of “Planet Rock” below.
