CVNT5 ft. DJ Khaled – They Don’t Want Us To Win (Original Mix)

CVNT5, the satirical side project from English producers Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge, announced themselves earlier this March with a self-titled track and accompanying music video. Their first music video saw the duo enact get-famous-quick plan of attack by utilizing a ghost producer. For their second released, CVNT5 have enlisted another major key to success — the presence of DJ Khaled.

The track goes for an epic feel, with horn flourishes heralding Khaled’s Snapchat-sized snippets of philosophy. To add gravity, the mood is ominous and angry, as a chopped vocal provides an eerie melodic hook while a grumbling, distorted bass rolls along underneath. CVNT5 samples Khaled saying “win” in the buildup before the drop, leaving no equivocations on the song’s message and intent.

Clocking in at a little over two minutes long, “They Don’t Want Us To Win” may seem too short upon first listen. However, much like DJ Khaled’s social media musings, much wisdom can be gleaned in this diminutive package. You can listen to the track below.
