Los Angeles DJ and producer Pumpkin dies in car accident

Los Angeles DJ and producer Nicholas Alvarado, or Pumpkin as he was affectionately known, died in a car crash yesterday, March 25. Alvarado was in Kerrville, Texas on his way to a festival when the incident occurred. Both drivers were killed in the accident.

Pumpkin’s long-time friend Sammy Bliss broke the news on Facebook. “I have the unfortunate responsibility of conveying the saddest news possible,” he said. “It’s with a completely broken heart that I need to let you all know that Nick died in a car accident last night in Texas, on his way to a festival.”

Pumpkin was a prominent figure in the transformational festival scene. A recurring favorite of the The DoLab, he was a constant fixture at events like Lightning in a Bottle and Symbiosis. His infectious brand of vocal-savvy deep house made him a beloved live performer as well as a celebrated mixtape curator. He was also a successful remixer, taking on artists like Florence + The Machine, The Mowgli’s, Wildlight and more over the years.

Pumpkin will be thoroughly missed in Los Angeles and the wider North American dance music community. Read Sammy Bliss’s full message below:
