Porter Robinson, Dada Life and more share their favorite memories from Avalon Hollywood’s CONTROL

Over the years, Avalon Hollywood has cemented itself as one of Los Angeles’s most iconic nightlife institutions. Since launching its coveted CONTROL series in late 2008, the historic nightclub has served as a focal point of LA’s thriving electronic scene. From hosting some of 2010’s most seminal performances from the likes of Skrillex, Rusko, Porter Robinson and more, to helping break talents like Wolfgang Gartner and Nero into a wider market, CONTROL has maintained a consistent mark of quality that few venues in the city can rival.

This Friday and Saturday, CONTROL will celebrate its 7-year anniversary with two back-to-back shows. The first night, on March 4, will feature a who’s who of trap and bass music with Gladiator, DJ Sliink b2b Brenmar, Aazar, Jon Mon, and Tighttraxx. Saturday will see the return of one of Avalon’s favorite headliners, Wolfgang Gartner, who will perform for the first time in nearly a year. Gartner will be joined by Wuki and Penthouse Penthouse for the special anniversary show.

Tickets for both shows are available here.

To commemorate the 7-year anniversary of CONTROL, we’ve asked Porter Robinson, Dada Life, Gladiator, and many more to share their favorite memories from the historic night.

Porter Robinson
“I remember back in 2010, me and my managers and some friends walked into Control for the first time, and as we were walking in, The Crystal Method played my track “Say My Name”. So nostalgic looking back on that – Control was something that I aspired to play one day back then. It’s definitely a classic US dance music institution.”

Dada Life (Olle)
“The CONTROL night that will forever stay in our memory was the night we actually never played – the night of the riot. I remember standing on the balcony next to the club and seeing more and more people around the block – and this was early maybe around 6-7pm. A few hours later it all went down, helicopters, shielded police men, everything. It was crazy. We were looking forward to the show so much!”

Gladiator
“To be involved in the 7th Anniversary of a venue and event that has welcomed us and so many friends for so many years is truly an honor. Gladiator has been attending Control at the Avalon since day one – an incredible event that has shaped our love for electronic music of all kinds and created a home base for all Los Angeles music fans. We wish the Avalon and the team behind Control best wishes in the coming year and to many more unforgettable shows!”

Hermitude
“We’ve got nothing but love for Control and have had some amazing shows with them. That sound system! Not to mention the beautiful room with its incredible history, definitely makes one of the spots to play in LA.”

Ghastly
“Control has always been a staple in LA nightlife culture and one that I’m so happy to be a part of. I went from opening to headlining this night and it meant so much to me. I think it’s one of the best Friday nights you can ask for in LA”

Kap Slap
“CONTROL LA was definitely one of the best times I’ve had here in LA. The dynamic that Avalon Hollywood provides combined with the nights CONTROL LA put on is incomparable and there is nothing like it in LA. Huge sound, killer lights, and some genuinely good people working to make sure the night was a success.”

Sam Hiller
“My time with Control feels like a lifetime. I started attending first as a fan back in 2010, and then started DJing in the Honey Lounge as a part of PeaceTreaty. We then made the big move to the main stage where we played some incredible shows alongside Major Lazer, Bingo Players, Felguk, and more. In 2012 after departing PeaceTreaty I was given the honor of becoming a Control resident DJ, and I’ve been there as a part of the family ever since. Control is just that, a family. It’s an amazing club night that you know you can attend on any given Friday, and you know you will always hear a wide variety of high quality music, experience amazing production, and dance your ass off all night long. Control’s legacy is legendary at this point, and it’s not going to slow down any time soon!”

Bad Royale
“Control was super tite. It was our biggest show in LA and when we got billed for it we were ecstatic! It was amazing to see en entire crowd go as hard as we were to music that was all completely new to them.”
