New festival in Morocco to take place on ‘Game of Thrones’ set

Known for scenic coastlines where sprawling deserts meet the ocean, Morocco has become a growing destination for euro-trippers looking for revelry while taking in some uniquely striking sights. While the festival scene in the small country is only just beginning to bud, the recent announcement of new event MOGA, which takes place on a Game of Thrones set, is sure to help attract a new influx of travelers.

The venue is located in the coastal city of Essaouira, which was used in Game of Thrones as the onsite location for filming scenes in the cities of Astapor and Yunkai. Even if Khaleesi never makes an appearance, a music festival on a set of the legendary series is something that will pique the interest of people all over the world — a set from DJ Hodor wouldn’t hurt either, though.

No lineup has been announced yet for the first-annual MOGA festival. The event is confirmed to take place October 14-16 this year, however, leaving plenty of time for the buzz to build.
