Verboten files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, all scheduled events to go on as planned

Verboten has just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Williamsburg club was seized by New York state after hours on Wednesday evening for owing evading more than $360,000 in taxes.

According to Thump, Verboten’s owners, Jen Schiffer and her husband John Perez, officially filed in Brooklyn Federal Court the following evening. Verboten will be permitted to operate while its case remains open as Schiffer and Perez work toward devising a restructuring plan.

Schiffer told Thump that Verboten’s capture earlier this week was equally as shocking for her: “We have been having ongoing negotiations regarding a payment plan with the state. To our surprise, the conversation ended this way.”

Despite this week’s drama, Verboten will be open this evening to celebrate Matthew Dear’s birthday as planned, and for the foreseeable future. “It’s been a fight and it feels amazing,” Jen rattled.
