Boys Noize & Hudson Mohawke – Birthday feat. Spank Rock (Original Mix)

Boys Noize has been consistently productive in the first half of 2016. The German techno producer surreptitiously hinted at a new release by unveiling three tracks with similar artwork — “Overthrow,” “Euphoria,” and “Starchild” — before confirming that another LP, entitled Mayday, was on its way. To further build anticipation, Boys Noize released a music video for “Starchild” and a brief medley of Mayday‘s thirteen tracks.

Now with the album release imminent – it drops May 20 — the producer born Alexander Ridha has released one final track ahead of it; his collaboration with Scottish producer Hudson Mohawke “Birthday feat. Spank Rock.” A pairing of two such industry heavyweights is bound to turn quite a few heads and “Birthday” will certainly do that.

Instead of the brooding techno on which Boys Noize built his career, “Birthday” opens with a more subdued, rounded off sound, soon joined by a hook courtesy of Spank Rock. The drop itself will also catch longtime fans off guard, using large chord patches to mark the track’s progression and cascading percussion to provide energy. While a significant departure from his previous releases, “Birthday” only serves to highlight the wide range of production skills and malleable style that Boys Noize has.
