Sebastian Ingrosso – Dark River (Festival Version)

Experimentation appears to be a recurring theme in Sebastian Ingrosso’s year. Taking a temporary step outside his successful Axwell^Ingrosso side project, the former Swedish House Mafia member recently explored trap in his collaborative track “FLAGS” with LIOHN and Salvatore.

Ingrosso has since moved back into his native territory with “Dark River,” his second release of 2016. He’s opted to release the festival version first, which fulfills its purpose by blending together several popular festival tropes into one production. “Dark River” commences on a tribal-esque note, utilizing pungent synths in place of airy melodies and powerful kicks to create an arena-appropriate first half that transforms into an explosion of electro house in the second.

A particularly intriguing element of “Dark River,” however, is the notable Avicii influence throughout. Its breakdowns are folk-like in nature and the vocals have a hint of twang, proving crossover hits are still a powerful force in dance music.

Keep look out on Ingrosso’s YouTube channel for a “Dark River” video to accompany the track.
