Techno is now the best-selling genre on Beatport
Fresh off nabbing a week all of its own in its birthplace of Detroit, techno has been announced as the number one selling genre on Beatport, according to the International Music Summit Ibiza Business Report. It’s also indicative that, despite Beatport’s recent struggles, the site still holds serious gravity in the electronic music scene.
Techno supplants tech house as the previous best-selling genre, though it is far from the only winner. Drum ‘n’ bass experienced the largest growth of any genre, surpassing stalwarts progressive house and trance. On the whole, electronic music has seen gargantuan growth in the last three years, rising 60% to a total value of $7.1 billion. Much of this is attributed to the continued growth and demand in the United States and the Asian market burgeoning into another juggernaut unto itself.
