Foals – Night Swimmers (Mura Masa Edit)

Mura Masa has made quite an impact this past year, putting out an EP, being featured on an episode of Diplo and Friends, even landing a supporting gig with Flume. The 19-year-old wunderkid has been turning heads with his unique songwriting and clean, elegant production. He’s released two singles from his upcoming debut album, but his most recent offering is an edit of fellow Englishmen Foals’ “Night Swimmers.” Mura Masa, whose real name is Alex Crossan, once again shows off his keen ear for percussion, and his chilled-up, funky rendition is full of unexpected samples and rhythms that sound effortlessly simple, yet belie deceptive layers of subtlety and nuance. Smooth vocal chops ride over thick 808s and sharp guitar riffs in the chorus, making for a track that manages to be danceable, hummable, relaxed, and mind-blowing all at once.
