Hippie Sabotage assault security at What The Festival

Adrenaline and mob mentality blended together in a toxic manner as Hippie Sabotage’s set came to an abrupt close at What The Festival on June 18. The Sacramento duo had been dropping a series of heavy bass music into the crowd when their sound system malfunctioned. Shortly thereafter, they began rallying the crowd to join in their frustration, laying the groundwork for the ensuing chaos that sparked security’s decision to end the set just thirty minutes in.

The situation was worsened Hippie Sabotage threw their microphones into a nearby pool, and soon became even more disastrous when the pair got into a tussle with security. The video below, captured by Matthew Brown, depicts both members first prompting the security guard on stage to make physical contact, and then jumping the guard as soon as they had a reason to do so.

After the performance, the pair commented: “It was an unfortunate event that placed us in an unsafe situation in the middle of our performance. We feel terrible that the fans didn’t get the full set, but we love performing for Portland and will be back.” Given negative reaction from fans on social media, they may have spoke too soon.
