Vic Mensa releases fiery debut EP, ‘There’s Alot Going On’
After teasing an impending release earlier this week, rap breakout Vic Mensa has unveiled a fiery new EP, There’s Alot Going On. Though Mensa has released multiple powerful mixtapes, the EP is his debut studio release.
Whether or not the seven-track EP will replace Mensa’s planned debut full length, the long gestating Traffic, remains to be seen. Regardless, the new release is a commanding turn from the Chicago rapper who touches on everything from the war on Iraq to the Laquan McDonald, the teenager who was shot 16 times and killed by Chicago police officers in 2014.
In all, it’s a compelling effort that sees the emcee spinning racial tension and charged sociopolitical issues into quality, consumer facing music. Fans of Kendrick Lamar’s unflinching realism and classic Tupac will undoubtedly enjoy Mensa’s unforgettable debut.
