Beastie Boys’ Mike D to get his own Beats 1 Radio show

One third of the defunct rap group Beastie Boys, Mike D, will be hosting his own show on Beats 1 Radio starting July 15. Entitled “The Echo Chamber,”  the program is described as “freeform” featuring a wide and diverse range of music — both contemporary artists and those that have influenced Mike D’s career.

The show has already confirmed appearances from Cassius and Slaves — both of whom are collaborators of Mike D’s (including his recent work with Cassius on “Action“) — and British RnB singer Blood Orange. Intriguingly, the show will also be heavily influenced by Mike D’s production career: “The show also depends on records that I’m working on at this moment as a producer. So if I have an artist that I’m working with, then we’ll play records that inspired us or that we were listening to in the studio and make it more about that.”

Mike D went on to say that The Echo Chamber is also partially “wish fulfillment,” harkening back to his youth when he would buy records and expand his music library into disparate genres.
