Kaskade’s spontaneous Hollywood riot took place 5 years ago today

Five years ago, dubstep was all the rage, Spotify had just made it over to the United States, and EDC completed its first year in its new Las Vegas home. Kaskade, already a beloved veteran among rave circles, had also begun to witness his fame rise at a meteoric rate as EDM’s rapid expansion thrust him into the widespread public spotlight.

On July 27, 2011 the burgeoning star tweeted, “ME+BIG SPEAKERS+MUSIC=BLOCK PARTY!!!” His seemingly innocuous idea at the time was to cruise down Hollywood Blvd and play a couple of his hits right before entering into the privately-screened premiere of Electric Daisy Carnival Experience.

Unfortunately, as several thousand people who were there for the informal event remember, this was not the case as a swarms of attendees transformed a simple “block party” into a stand-off with the police. Watch a short video recollection of the experience posted shortly after events unfolded half a decade ago.
