Point Point circumvents sophomore slump on ‘Family Portrait EP’

Though Parisian trio (formerly four-member collective) Point Point refined their skills as curators for years before OWSLA’s release of their debut Contrastive Duplication EP, 2015 marked the production outfit’s first substantive wave of international recognition outside of France. Original tracks like “Life In Grey” and unexpected remixes like Kanye West rework “F+L” are among the reasons Point Point landed on Dancing Astronaut’s 25 Artists To Watch In 2016.

Half a year later, and almost exactly one year after their first EP release, our praise appears warranted. The three-track Family Portrait EP is both a demonstrated reminder of the group’s production prowess, and a showcase of their artistic vision’s cohesion. Uptempo “A Piece of the Sun” melds high-pitched breaks and bright synth riffs, while “Au Revoir” waxes nostalgic with piano strokes and chimes. The EP’s standout track, “All This,” employs impeccable sound design, featuring spliced vocal samples and stuttering kicks. Through Family Portrait, Point Point invites the listener to experience their unique narrative – one worth the year-long wait.
