3 confirmed dead after Hard Summer Music Festival

Three people died while attending Hard Summer Music Festival this past weekend at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. The news has been confirmed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

One man and two women died at the festival, with two passing on Saturday and one passing on Sunday. The causes of death have not yet been determined, pending a coroner’s report.

Captain Horace Boatwright of the Fontana Sheriff’s Station said hot weather was likely a factor in the deaths, with temperatures reaching the upper-90s throughout the weekend.

146,000 people attended Hard Summer’s 9th edition in their new location in Fontana. There were 325 arrests, mostly due to public intoxication.

We’ll update this story as more details emerge.

Update: 6:14pm EST: Officials have released the ages of the deceased: two women, ages 21 and 22, and one man, age 22. One was found unresponsive. Another experienced a seizure, while the third was suffering from chest pain.

Live Nation provided the Los Angeles Times with the following statement on the matter:

“We were deeply saddened to learn about the deaths of three people who attended the festival this weekend,” said Alexandra Greenberg, a Hard Summer spokeswoman. “While the causes of the deaths have not yet been determined, we ask everyone to keep them in their prayers.  Our sincerest thoughts and condolences are with their family and friends.”
