The Chainsmokers – Closer (Jauz Remix)

The Chainsmokers‘ “Closer” has proven to be a hit of monumental proportions. It’s already spent some time at the top of the Billboard 100, achieved double-platinum status, and burrowed deeper into the public consciousness courtesy of a questionable live performance at the VMAs. The Halsey-assisted song’s longevity will be extended by its ever-expansing catalogue of official remixes, which has most recently welcomed a house rework, courtesy of Jauz.

Though the LA-based producer generally centers his music around aggressive bass, for this piece, he wisely opts for a melodic, upbeat direction in his reproduction. A vaguely somber intro gives way to an ebullient chorus with the tempo of Drew Taggart and Halsey’s vocal hooks significantly increased. Over the course of three drops, Jauz segues between bouncing house, a chopped midsection, and a triumphant finale. The remix is bursting with energy throughout, providing a well-crafted contrast to the more wistful original.
