Die Antwoord to officially break up next year

It’s official: our favorite South African rap-rave duo, Die Antwoord, will disband in September of next year. The pair confirmed the news to Exclaim!, with Ninja saying in regards to the date: “Die Antwoord dies on that day. It’s all over. I feel beautiful about it. I’m not scared of the end. I’m a Ninja. I’m not scared of death.”

In true Die Antwoord fashion, the duo are going out with a bang. Plans are already in the works for a massive art show at the Museum of Contemporary Modern Art Africa in Cape Town, South Africa to send them off. What’s more, they’ll be releasing their debut movie, titled South African Ninja, which they’ve apparently been working on for over ten years. “It’s a South African gangster film that has African ninjas in it,” Ninja says. “Everything in the film is fictitious, like a regular movie, but it’s hard and raw, and everything has some parallel to our lives, so it’s got a surreal connection to everything.”

At the beginning of their career, Die Antwoord famously vowed that they would write five albums and then disappear. With a fourth on the way due out on September 16 — and a rumored fifth in 2017 — it appears the prophecy is coming true.

In the meantime, check out Die Antwoord’s new single “FAT FADED FUCK FACE” and relish the remaining time we still have with the duo.
