GRiZ – PS GFY (Ft. Cherub)
In terms of the crossover between funk and electronic music, GRiZ is one of, if not the, most visible flag bearers. Between his own sax-inflected jams and curating his imprint All Good Records, the Michigan-based producer has managed to bring the genre firmly into the modern music landscape. With his new album Good Will Prevail on the horizon, GRiZ has enlisted Cherub for an assist on his latest single, “PS GFY.”
An ebullient and bouncy horn intro soon gives way to funky guitars and staccato bass while Cherub provide vocals in their trademark layered style. A wide open drop follows and gives GRiZ the proper room to let his sax licks do the heavy lifting. The producer also gives Cherub’s guitars a chance to solo and shine, putting a bow on a salacious and salubrious breakup jam.
