RÜFÜS – Innerbloom (Lane 8 Remix)

In addition to his crusade to rid concert spaces of the incessant, distracting presence that smartphones have become at shows, Lane 8 has been quite busy in the studio of late. Following the recent releases of his Divina/Crush EP and mellifluous remix of Deadmau5’s “Strobe,” the producer and founder of This Never Happened has dropped another spellbinding remix for his fans – a reworking of RÜFÜS’ benchmark track, “Innerbloom.”

Lane 8 lays out his version of the song over a steady progression of lush synth chords. Building layers slowly and subtly, the producer opts to hint at a climax, rather than reach it. He highlights the gentle melancholy of the original’s vocals, while trading the vibrance of RÜFÜS’ sawtooth leads for a soft, haunting composition. Clocking in around 7 minutes-long, the remix reaffirms how capable an arranger Lane 8 is, crafting songs which, while lengthy, never seem repetitive.
