Canadian producer Defunk releases ‘Electric Body’ and announces Kickstarter campaign in memory of Pumpkin

Canadian producer Defunk was one of the many members of the dance music community affected by the untimely passing of Nick Alvarado, better known as Pumpkin, in March of 2016. The bass artist released “Electric Body,” the lead single off of his forthcoming project Stepping Out II, concurrently with his announcement of a unique Kickstarter campaign.

Each donation tier offers the chance to purchase anything from a simple merch and vinyl package, to “Private House Party Pack” anywhere in the United States or Canada. Some donations will be used for studio equipment, producing Stepping Out II, and building stage production — and the remainder will be donated to The Little Giant Acorn Foundation, which was created in Pumpkin’s memory. About the charitable foundation, Defunk explains:

“As a musician going on 14 years, I believe that music has changed and pushed me as a person in a multitude of ways, and I would really like to start giving back to help others pursue their dreams. The Little Giant Acorn Foundation memorial fund has been established to help children who want to pursue a career in music or performing arts that otherwise couldn’t afford to. It was started in honor of Nick “Pumpkin” Alvarado, and while he is sadly no longer with us, his spirit lives on through his music and the thousands of people he touched over the years. Part of this donation campaign will therefore ensure Nick’s spirit continues to shine bright while also helping to inspire the next generation of little acorns.”

“Electric Body” is the bluesy lead single off of Defunk’s forthcoming EP Stepping Out II. The track’s release is an homage to Pumpkin and his legacy, both in Pumpkin’s sound and the dance music community at large. Check out the campaign here.
