The Chainsmokers now have the longest-running number one single of the year

Love them or hate them, The Chainsmokers are on top, and they have been all year long. Polarizing opinions and Twitter beefs aside, there’s no question that the pair have emerged as one of the year’s most dominating dance acts; they’ve even got the numbers and the streak to show for it. The New York-based duo now have the longest-reigning Billboard number one of the year, holding down their 11th week atop the chart with their Halsey-assisted hit “Closer.”

Toppling Drake’s commanding ten-week run at the top of the chart with “One Dance,” The Chainsmoker’s inescapable “Closer” maintains its position as the number one song in the country again this week with the longest active streak since Wiz Khalifa’s “See You There” in 2015. “Closer” is also only the 21st track in Billboard chart history to hold the number one spot for such an extended period of time.

No longer just the “#Selfie dudes,” The Chainsmokers have unquestionably risen to pop star status, and it’s likely just a matter of time before another Chainsmokers smash comes out of the woodwork.
