The Chainsmokers have been nominated for ‘New Artist of the Year’ at the American Music Awards

The Chainsmokers have had an undeniable breakout year in 2016. The pair locked down a number of high-profile live performances this year, and capped off 2016 with the release of their new EP, Collage. Their chart-topping Halsey-assisted “Closer” has been a strong contender for the top song of the year, holding down the number one spot on Billboard’s charts for a record 12 weeks, only to be dethroned this week by Rae Sremmurd “Black Beatles” craze.

The Chainsmokers have been on top all year long, and now they might seal the deal with the American Music Award for ‘New Artist of the Year.’

The New York-based EDM-pop stars have been nominated alongside other major breakout acts such as Alessia Cara, Zayn, Shawn Mendes, and DNCE. Fans can vote for who they think was the best new artist of the year in 2016, though on paper, its hard to make the case that anyone but the Chainsmokers dominated to such a degree this year.
