Listen to deadmau5’s official ‘W:/2016ALBUM/’ minimix
In 2016, Joel Zimmerman, aka deadmau5, has been treating his dedicated fanbase well — from his B2B live set with Eric Prydz, to a“Strobe” remix EP, new collaborations, and much more.
There’s something to be said for successful artists letting fans in on the creative process, which deadmau5 has done more of this year than ever before. Spontaneous SoundCloud uploads aplenty — many of which eventually found their way onto the album — as well as his Twitch streams, Razer tutorials, and a number of other videos have provided glimpses into some of the processes that have made him the icon that he is today. In fact, it was his fans, during a Twitch stream, who suggested that the server location where the album was held should be used as its official title.
Zimmerman has put together a new minimix to preview each track off of W:/2016ALBUM, providing a clear view into the overall sound of the album. Although each track is played for less than a minute, fans have expectedly been responding overtly positively. Every track has Zimmerman’s signature touch, and along with the more classic deadmau5 sound heard in “Saved” and “4ware,” there is a range of sophisticated new sounds and feelings that prove his experimentation with darker themes, retro sounds, and breakbeat rhythms over the past few years has paid off.
