Steve Aoki remixes ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ by My Chemical Romance

Long before rave culture took the United States by storm, much of the American youth were listening to emo music, a once-popular genre from the early to mid-2000s. My Chemical Romance became one of the genre’s most iconic bands, with their third studio album The Black Parade serving as their breakout feature.

To commemorate its 10-year release, The Black Parade has been reissued to include additional unreleased demos and live recordings. Joining My Chemical Romance on their emo resurgence is Steve Aoki, an electronic producer who is also tirelessly reviving his own career. Aoki is no stranger to working with defunct genres and artists, contributing collaborative efforts on tracks with rock bands when they were already way past their prime, such as Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer.

On his remix of “Welcome to the Black Parade,” Aoki retains lead singer Gerard Way’s vocals and infuses his signature cacophony of generic electro sounds that neither complement nor honor the original, which Aoki claims is one of his “favorite songs by My Chemical Romance.”

Emo fans who are seeking a proper electronic remix of their beloved bands should divert their attention to notable work from Ryan Hemsworth, like “Feeling This” by Blink-182 and “In Too Deep” by Sum 41.
