Skrillex, RL Grime, and What So Not’s massive collab, ‘Waiting,’ is finally here [STREAM]

For bass music fans with a particular penchant for 808s, there is perhaps no prospect more momentous than the titanic union of Skrillex, RL Grime, and What So Not in the studio. Suffice it to say, the triumvirate’s collaboration has become the most anticipated release of the genre since Skrillex’s “Red Lips” remix. The aptly-titled “Waiting” first garnered traction in its early stages as an ID in RL Grime’s HARD Summer 2015 set, and experienced a resurgence when What So Not announced the track’s completion in September.

Now, the wait is finally over. Fans tracking the collaboration know what to expect from “Waiting,” given the track’s appearance in RL Grime’s viral Halloween mix and the unique preview provided in a cheeky video marketing campaign earlier this week. As expected, the upbeat piece vacillates between peaceful, yet suspenseful melodic segments and virulent, bass-laden horn ascensions. Structurally coherent and viscerally energizing, “Waiting” is poised to be a staple in bass-focused sets in the months to come.
