Richard Branson announces new athletic festival venture, ‘Virgin Sport’

Always one to pursue new ideas and ventures, Richard Branson, the founder the Virgin Group, which includes companies such as Virgin Records and Virgin Atlantic Airlines, has decided to take cues from recent trends in the music industry and apply the ideas to the world of sports. Taking cues from the booming festival market, the billionaire serial entrepreneur has come up with his latest venture, “Virgin Sport.”

Virgin Sport will “expand the reach of participatory events in running, cycling, and other formats,” while raising money for charity. Whereas most other large-scale sporting events are focused on only a few different disciplines at most, Virgin Sport will aim to bring together not only those mentioned above, but also integrate other group activities such as yoga and bootcamp, as well as music and live art performances.

The first four Virgin Sport events will be held in London at Hackley on April 30, Westminster on July 9, and Oxford in October, with the debut US event taking place in San Francisco October 14 – 15, 2017.
