Happy Valentine’s Day from Filous, Alina Baraz, and Dancing Astronaut

Valentine’s Day can mean many different things. Some look forward to time spent with their beloved, while others lament they still haven’t found theirs. No matter the situation, these three playlists — curated by Alina Baraz, Filous, and the Dancing Astronaut staff, respectively— provide the perfect Valentine’s Day soundtrack, regardless of perspective.

Our first playlist comes from Alina Baraz. Much like her work with Galimatias, the results are sultry. The vocalist unsurprisingly features songs from other top singers, such as The Weeknd, Kehlani, and, in an appreciated nod to those who came before, Ginuwine. Delving into tracks that range from pop to RnB to rap, the playlist finds its cohesion in the shared, sensual smoothness that permeates each selection.

The second playlist is curated by Austrian producer and multi-instrumentalist Filous. Opening with his latest track, the Mat Kearney-assisted “Goodbye,” Filous then explores an ebullient variety of chill meditations interspersed with ecstatic, pop-inflected pieces. This artist’s inclusions lean firmly into the more sedate genres of electronic music, while also making time to celebrate pop — even finding a spot for The Beatles‘ classic, “All You Need Is Love”. On the whole, Filous’ playlist is more energetic than Baraz’s, opting for an invigorating approach to Valentine’s Day.

Finally, the Dancing Astronaut staff came together create an eclectic Valentine’s Day playlist. A classic Flume remix kicks off this collection, though care was taken to feature some deep cuts from the electronic scene. Following the newly-crowned Grammy winner, the venerable Hall & Oates make an appearance. Daft Punk pervade the playlist with several entries, as do Skrillex and Chance The Rapper. Icons such as Justice and Above & Beyond appear in the selections alongside more experimental producers like Penthouse Penthouse, Nick Murphy (AKA Chet Faker), and Mr. Carmack. To round out the vibrance of the playlist, we’ve also included funkier cuts from GRiZ and Chromeo, and tender serenades from Gallant and LCD Soundsystem.

Happy Valentine’s Day from your friends at Dancing Astronaut.
