Lorde may have just teased new music in a cryptic commercial
Cryptic YouTube recordings of a New Zealand commercial featuring Lorde have been riling up fans from around the world about potential new music. The Grammy winning singer-songwriter, who has not released anything new as an individual recording artist since her 2013 album, Pure Heroine, has appeared in a brief commercial, scored by uplifting piano chords which, it’s worth noting, don’t appear in any prior Lorde songs.
The ambiguous ad concludes laconically with the dates of “3.2.17” and “3.3.17,” apparently correlating to New York and New Zealand, respectively. With the New Zealander kicking off her 2017 tour with Coachella in April, could these numbers be release dates for Lorde’s first single, or album, in nearly five years?
Lorde’s team hasn’t yet commented on what the commercial entails, leaving many to speculate hopefully on the possibility that Lorde will release new music this coming Thursday – or Friday, for the artist’s compatriots.
