Steve Aoki is pivoting away from mainstream EDM
Steve Aoki is known for his party-drive EDM image. The Dim Mak label-head has established his reputation through his high energy musical style and onstage antics.
However, the veteran producer has taken somewhat of a hiatus after dropping his EP 4OKI over the summer, in a musical ‘rebranding’ endeavor. In a recent interview, Aoki talks about his plans to migrate away from traditional EDM. Turning over a new leaf, the producer has decided to work with hip-hop artists for his upcoming EP, which includes names like Lil Uzi Vert, Migos, 2 Chainz and more; he also is creating a fully revamped stage show.
Discussing his new vision, Aoki says, “So with this new brand, this new identity I want the shows to be, you know, not just about Steve Aoki it’s about me and my friends mobbing the stage and having fun.”
Although this rebranding may not be a cakewalk, Aoki’s old style might just have kicked the bucket.
