Mura Masa taps Charli XCX for first official release of 2017
Twenty-year-old prodigy Alex Crossan, better known as Mura Masa, has teamed up with Charlotte Aitchison, or Charlie XCX, for his first release of 2017 called “1 Night.” As hype around Mura Masa’s debut LP builds, this release gives a taste of the remarkable deviation from genre norms for which the producer is known. A groovy midtempo track, “1 Night” features a consummate vocal performance from Charlie XCX over a soft four-on-the-floor drum progression. Mura Masa layers the track’s melody over a steel drum and charted vocal samples.
Crossan started Mura Masa back in 2014 with various remixes and the Soundtrack to Death mixtape. The British producer has since released a handful of single tracks meant for the debut LP To Fall Out of Love To including “Love$ick” with vocals by A$AP Rocky, which has already seen acclaim. With tours in Europe and the US, a spot at Coachella, and this album release, 2017 is certain to be a big year for Mura Masa, and “1 Night” kicks it off in an exemplary way.
