8 Coachella sets Barclay Crenshaw wants you to see

For many of his recent and upcoming festival appearances, Barclay Crenshaw has opted to shed his internationally-renowned Claude VonStroke moniker in favor of the hip hop-driven side project under his real name. Perhaps the most prestigious example of this modus operandi in 2017 is Coachella, where the Dirtybird label-head has performed in the past under his famed pseudonym.

Crenshaw will lead the Do LaB’s highly-anticipated lineup for the second weekend of Coachella. While his set, and the sets of other artists at the Do LaB will be essential to catch, Barclay Crenshaw has given us eight of his personal set recommendations for Coachella 2017.

Words by Barclay Crenshaw; Introduction by Will McCarthy.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band

“The New Orleans tradition that started it all. The best pound for pound musicians at the festival will be found here along with me in the crowd.”

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform Fridays, April 14 & 21.

Mura Masa

“One [artist] my wife turned me on to. What a talented producer. And who doesn’t love the story of a little instrumental with so much heat it gets picked up by A$AP Rocky for a collab re-release?”

Mura Masa will perform Saturdays, April 15 & 22.

Kaytranada

“The buzzed artist of the year in my little microcosm.
Love that his vibe makes it in to XL recordings and becomes a huge thing. Very encouraging to all of us aspiring beat scene producers.”

Kaytranada will perform Sundays, April 16 & 23.

Bonobo

“One of the leaders of the scene who always has the best music videos as well. We are all jealous! Love me some Bonobo.”

Kendrick Lamar

“The extremely rare underground artist who also becomes the biggest artist in America. It’s virtually impossible and yet here he stands, Kendrick Lamar, headlining Coachella. It’s incredible.”
