The biggest issue with dance music in general is a lack of trailblazers. More often than not, most producers just find the latest trending sound in the industry and shamelessly jump on the bandwagon, doing nothing to improve or modify a sound that has already been pioneered by someone else after countless hours in the studio. The latest genre to suffer from this monotonous saturation is future bass. Every branch of mainstream EDM has or will end up converging to this genre, causing a large-scale creative stagnation in the industry.
However, the story is very different with Asmow’s latest, “Don’t Know How.” The track is still predominantly future bass and yet it has an air of freshness to it, which can be traced back to the shrewd production of its creator. “Don’t Know How” features a multitude of cross-genre elements, ranging from trance to percussive elements of tropical house as well. Though the song starts off rather slowly with charming piano chords and delicate vocals, in less than a minute, it bursts to life with a trance-oriented synth progression and smooth percussive elements, making for an engaging listen.
