Say goodbye to Goa’s famous all-night rave parties

Goa’s famed beaches have attracted Indian as well as international tourists ever since independence. These beaches have also seen their fair share of crazy rave parties, which go a long way in brining tourists to the seaside state. Interestingly, Above & Beyond’s label “Anjunabeats” was conceived on Goa’s Anjuna beach, possibly during one such rave.

However, Goa’s newly formed; right-wing government aims to put an end to such parties, aiming to “crack down on drugs, prostitution and illegal gambling activity in the state.” Parties post 10pm are already banned in the state and local law enforcement aims to rigidly clamp down on illegal partying. In the words of cabinet minister Vinod Palyekar,” Late night parties are not part of our culture. We need not encourage them. They should be immediately shut down.”

This news comes as a huge blow to the Goan tourism industry. All that remains to be seen is how badly the state will be affected in the near future.
