Watch the first-ever Gorillaz live interview

Last night, the British cartoon band Gorillaz discussed everything and nothing with MistaJam from BBC Radio 1 in their first ever live interview. The half-hour conversation satirizes run-of-the-mill promo interviews that the group has avoided for their forthcoming album Humanz, out April 28. Presented by Telekom Electronic Beats, the first half of the interview features 2D (lead vocals/ keyboards) and Murdoc (bass/vocals) hilariously dodging the mundane dialogue of a tired interview script. Before the second half, a grumpy Russel Hobbs (drums) joins the conversation via phone.

The witty sarcasm doesn’t stop during the second half the interview, where the duo answer fan questions. One asks Murdoc, “Who’s your favorite writer?” to which the artist replies, “Bob Kerouac. He’s a distant relation of Jack, and he wrote a book called By The Side Of The Road. Jack Kerouac wrote a wonderful book called On The Road which is good… I’ll give you that… it’s good… but Bob Kerouac is better.”

If this hysterical interview is any indication of what Gorillaz’ 10-episode TV show will be like, it and their upcoming tour are about to be a hoot.
