It goes without saying that Sonny Moore is one of the most consistently prolific figures operating in the modern music industry. 2017 has been no exception to this reality, but, to many Skrillex fans, it seems like almost an eternity since he’s released any music. Moore’s recent foray away from the dance music realm — to reunite with From First To Last and produce Incubus’ new album — has accounted for the bulk of his recent musical output. Indeed, the world hasn’t been graced with a new Skrillex track since he collaborated with RL Grime and What So Not on “Waiting” six months ago.
Now, the wait has finally concluded for devotees to Moore’s electronic predilections.
Released as part of his label’s HOWSLA compilation, “Chicken Soup” sees Skrillex join forces with French bass savant Habstrakt. The collaboration has been highly publicized since footage arose of the OWSLA head playing it during his surprise set at Coachella in late April. For the bass music community, the release is well worth the hype. The gritty house output is menacing, but buoyant; it’s anthemic, but not self-serious. Overall, “Chicken Soup” hits in all the right places.
