Chance The Rapper and Francis and the Lights have always held a collaborative relationship. Both being independent artists, the Chicago-bred rapper’s unique style and lyrical cadence match with Francis Starlite’s contemporary R&B aesthetic in brilliantly complementary ways. Now, the pair’s creative connection continues with “May I Have This Dance (Remix).” The remix features a new verse from Chance baked into 2016’s original version from Francis and the Lights‘ debut album Farewell, Starlite.
This new output comes a year after Francis and Chance last linked up on “Summer Friends” from Chano’s critically-lauded Coloring Book mixtape, and comes paired with a charming new music video. Chance, known for his eclectic live moves, comes equipped with YEEZY BOOST 350 V2s and his best Napoleon Dynamite-inspired t-shirt as he dances his way through the remix, eventually joined by Francis to complete the routine. The video comes as the “official video sequel” to Francis and the Lights’ previous video for “Friends,” which featured a cameo by Chance, Kanye West, and Bon Iver.
Gentle rapping over the tune’s infectious arrangement to his baby, Kensli, Chance amps up a feel-good number that’s already worth repeated listens with his signature footwork and delightfully endearing verse-work.
