Premiere: Piek with Fábel – Despertar (Henry Saiz Remix)

In February of this year, Piek released his debut album, Despertar. Fittingly titled by the Spanish for “wake,” the LP catalyzed an awakening for the rising Spanish producer’s career in the electronic music realm. This month, Desparter will receive two official remix EPs on its home label of Sincopat, featuring enviable remixes from the likes of Eelke Kleijn, Third Son, and more.

Leading the EP series is fellow Spaniard Henry Saiz, who lends his talents to the album’s titular track. In his interpretation, the artful producer harnesses the ethereal power of Piek and Fábel’s original composition, but transfers these elements into a more club-germane format.

Saiz marks “Despertar” with recurrent, deep vocal samples that endow the remix with an ominous quality, yet don’t necessarily transform it into a “dark” piece. Rather, in true Saiz form, he blends these new components into a progressive piece of electronica which is as stylistically complex as it is emotive.

The first installment of the Desparter remixes arrives Friday, June 23 on Sincopat, while the second set follows a week later, June 30. View the full tracklists for both EPs below and preorder the remixes here.
