Premiere: Zeds Dead enliven their ballad, ‘Slow Down,’ with a future house VIP mix

On Monday, June 5, Zeds Dead revealed their forthcoming Northern Lights remix EP with Delta Heavy’s formidable remix of “Lights Out.” The eight-track release, due this Friday, June 9, on their Deadbeats imprint, will feature eight revisions of songs from the duo’s debut album, with artists such as Bear Grillz and DNMO on the roster.

Perhaps the most enticing selection from the package, however, is its leading track, which sees Zeds Dead breathe new life into “Slow Down” with their own remix. Driven by sedate synthesis and Jenna Pemkowski’s sultry vocals, “Slow Down” acts as the slow, stirring ballad of Northern Lights in its original form.

In their retooling, DC and Hooks enliven the calmative piece by transferring its melodic elements into an upbeat, but moody future house offering. The remix retains the core essence of the original enough to remain innately soothing, but is vibrant enough to act as a high point in many Zeds Dead performances to come.
